5 New Year’s Resolutions For Beautiful Skin

A new year presents new opportunities to improve our lives for the better. Some resolutions may involve health improvements, changing sleep patterns, or growing your career. Whatever your resolution may be, let’s take a look at an area of our bodies that requires particular attention and care: our skin.

Your skin accounts for 15% of your body weight and is the largest organ in the human body, which is why taking care of your skin is important. In this blog, we will dive into some skincare resolutions you should be making this year for healthy skin.

Let’s Start With The Obvious: Drink Water

We all understand the importance of keeping well-hydrated. Apart from it being one of our most basic needs, drinking water not only maintains physical health, but it also improves our complexions. Our skin is made up of 64% of water, so keeping your skin hydrated is one of the first and most important rules in maintaining healthy skin.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet is beneficial for all aspects of your health, including beautiful skin. Your skin has a natural barrier to retain moisture, so eating foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3s helps promote healthy skin.

Sunscreen, All Day, Every Day

People often feel the need to only apply sunscreen during the summer. However, it is the daily UV rays we are exposed to, like driving in our cars or sitting in sunlight in our offices, that contribute to visible signs of aging. Choose a moisturizer that contains 30 SPF or greater to get the benefits of a sunscreen combined with a cream that soothes your skin.

Use The Correct Cleanser For Your Skin

Whether you have acne, oily, or sensitive skin, choosing the right kind of cleanser for your skin type is important. Not only that, make sure you cleanse your skin twice a day, right after you wake up and before you go to bed. Whether you wear face makeup during the day is irrelevant, because your skin picks up various dirt and oils throughout the day. Going to bed without washing your face leaves you sleeping in any dirt and oils you’ve accumulated on your skin throughout your day.

As a side note, be mindful of how you are washing your face. When you wash your skin, you naturally may move your hands down your face to direct the water into the sink. Pulling down on your face can cause wrinkles, so it is better to wash your face in an upward motion instead.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Hydration is essential inside and out. Similar to cleansing, make sure you moisturize your skin twice a day: once after showering and the second before bed after cleansing your skin. Much like a cleanser, choosing the appropriate type of moisturizer for your skin type is beneficial.

When moisturizing your face, be extra gentle around your eyes. The skin around your eyes is the most delicate part of your face, which means it displays fatigue a lot easier and is more prone to wrinkles. Alternatively, you could invest in a good eye cream to pay particular attention to your eyes.
